When we go through tough situations we tend to forget truth. We don't fully remember what God brought us out of. We forget the words that He has given us. Sadly, we begin to forget who God says we are. What was once an unshakable, unmovable foundation begins to have some cracks and it begins to falter.
Here I was sitting in my quiet time having this super boohoo moment, woe is me, and you know the rest, I'm sure we've all been there. In the middle of me clearing off my chest God says stand on truth. Honestly, I was thinking to myself what are you even talking about. Immediately I thought about the armor of God - belt of truth.
Sometimes we find ourselves caught up in so much emotion and fleshly things that we go into war with nothing but flesh. We run into the front line completely undressed and unprepared. We don't even have a weapon! The lord was letting me know you need to get yourself together. You're naked right now when you should be prepared for war. Put on the belt of truth.
What is Truth?
When I began to look at the verse I found it so interesting that the belt of truth was the first piece of armor mentioned. To me that means it's the most important. Similar to reading ingredient labels, whatever ingredient comes first is the one that is most used or most important in making the product. Truth is the most important thing, because the word is our truth (John 17:17)!
What is the belt used for?
In war the belt is used to carry weapons (grenades, shells, swords, etc.). During biblical times it would've been used to carry swords. What is the word compared to in the bible? *drum roll please* A Sword! That is so good to me! The word is sharper than any two edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), so don't forget your most important weapon! We have to make sure we are carrying the truth or the word with us, so we can be ready for battle.
What Happens When We Forget Truth?
When we begin to forget truth we start picking up lies. When you begin to read John it tells us that in the beginning was the Word and Word was with God and the word was God.
If we are not eating on the word, but devouring lies instead the enemy starts winning territory. He begins to creep into your mind. Your thoughts are no longer of power and strength, but of defeat. He begins to tell you his purpose and it doesn't look like Jeremiah 29:11! If you continue to eat on the lies for too long the cracks become holes. Now he's stealing your fruits. You don't have joy, no peace, you don't want to suffer for Christ's sake you just want out!
But if we could just remember the truth, the Word of God, and what He said then the attacks will come up but they won't last! You might have a moment, but you won't stay in defeat! You won't allow the enemy to unpack its bags in your mind, in your house, at your job, or anywhere else because you realize how to fight and where true power is.
I'm still going to cry out to the Lord, but instead of narrowing in on the fleshly part i'm going to be more intentional about recognizing the lies and remembering the truth. Remembering the truth of who He is and who He says I am. Ask yourself, what lies have you been feeding on? What's the truth?
