Survival vs Revival
Hello love! Today I was reading in Ezra and I began to study the difference between revival and survival. There are situations where you survive, but then there are situations where you’re revived. Let’s take a look at Ezra 9:8.
“And now for a little while grace has been shown from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a peg in His holy place, that our God may enlighten our eyes and give us a measure of revival in our bondage.”
- Ezra 9:8 (NKJV)
Grace was shown from the Lord. Grace is the unmerited favor of God towards men. Meaning they didn’t do anything wrong to deserve the favor they got it was just given. They received favor for 4 things:
1. Favor to escape
Scripture said they were left as a remnant. Remnant are refugees or people that are left after a catastrophe.
2. Favor to be able to have access to His holy place (sanctuary)
3. Favor to receive enlightenment
Scripture said thier eyes were enlightened by God. Not natural enlightenment, but spiritual enlightenment. Some things are going on that you can’t see without God’s help.
4. Favor to be revived
What really stuck out in this scripture are the words revival in our bondage. I kept trying to figure out why the word revival. Why not survival? I had to go search to see the difference between survival and revival.
Survival: Act or fact of surviving, especially under adverse or unusual circumstances; a person or thing that survives or endures.
Revival: Preserving or means of life. To activate, set in motion, or take up again, renew. Restoration to life, consciousness, vigor, strength. An awakening of interest in & care for matters relating to personal religion.
The Lord didn’t just want us to get through it and be survivors. Because you can survive something, but survival doesn’t equal you being renewed or restored to original position. Survival can equal making it out and still being damaged. Revival means not only did you survive but you’re renewed to the original condition. You’re not damaged! God gave you grace to get through it and be restored with more strength and more wisdom. You didn’t just survive you were revived!
May we all continue to be a remnant, not only surviving but reviving through Jesus Christ. Within our bondage we will be restored. The chains and traps that the enemy tried against us won’t weaken us but strengthen us. The darts that came and are coming won’t take us out, we will be revived. May the Lord send us a measure of revival so we can be restored! Amen!
